CALLUP Announces Innovative System Enabling Operators to Reduce Significantly SMS Expenses
Rosh Haayin, Israel, November 19 Nov, 2013. CALLUP, a provider of Value Added Services (VAS) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions for the telecom industry, today announced Roam Home SMS – an innovative patent pending system enabling operators to reduce significantly SMS expenses.
"SMS is one of the most expensive services for which operators still pay when their subscribers are roaming, whether in the operator's country or internationally," said Alon Roth, CALLUP's CEO. "Roam Home SMS provides a real solution for this challenge, enabling operators to use the Internet for SMS delivery, thus paying for data quantity, not for number of messages, resulting in a significant cost savings. "
Roam Home SMS identifies available wireless networks and sends the SMS via the Internet. The system, currently available for Android devices, diverts SMS from the circuit switched path to the IP data path (Cellular or Wi-Fi) when possible, and still generates Call Detail Records (CDRs) for the operator. This is done transparently for the user, who remains with the same, familiar user experience.
The solution is based on a client-server model. The client is located both on the device and on the SIM card, transparent to the user. The server is a gateway to the operator’s SMS Center (SMSC), which receives the mobile-originated (MO) messages over IP from the clients and generates CDRs.
On the client side, multiple network-dependent capture rules can be set on Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC). The client will be active in the presence of a cellular data network and/or Wi-Fi. Due to SIM dependency, the client will be active only for the network’s customers assuring no misuse of the applet is made by other operators' customers. Additional security measures include cryptography and authentication to allow transport over HTTPS.
On the server side, Roam Home SMS generates CDRs and authenticates the user (so the system won’t be abused by other operators). It has an anti-spoof feature and it updates the client configuration (for example, it activates only on specific MNOs).
